Becoming a Primary School
In September 2012 Stoborough First School will become a Primary School following the Local Authority decision to move from a three tier education system to a two tier – Primary and Secondary – system.
We are working the Diocese and Local Authority to make the changes to our School and will be welcoming two new teachers in the near future to teach our new Year 5 (September 2012) and Year 6 (September 2013) classes. Parent Forums will continue to be held to discuss your comments but please feel welcome to discuss any issues you may have with our Acting Head Teacher, Miss Corbin.
The School/Parent Partnership – Working Together for Your Child
As parents or guardians, you are welcome to arrange to talk with the teachers and the head teacher at anytime during the School year. We rely on a trusting partnership with parents and guardians so that we can work together to provide the best for your child.
There are formal times thorough the year where you can expect feedback on your child’s progress and have the chance to discuss any particular aspect of interest or concern.
Open days are planned during the year to allow parents to watch activities and look children’s work.

Assessment of Progress
Children in Reception class are assessed using the Foundation Stage Profile. These assessments are made through observations and cover a range of areas of a child’s development including language, mathematical, physical and social abilities.
Teachers assess children’s learning on a regular basis and use this information to inform their planning. Progress is continually assessed and these assessments are used to track and monitor their progress through the school.
Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) and Teacher Assessment take place in Years 2 and 6. Children in Year 1 receive Teacher Assessment whilst children in Years 3, 4 and 5 receive Teacher Assessment and optional SATs. The SATs measure what all children can do when they answer the same questions. Teacher Assessment measures pupils’ progress over time. We endeavour to integrate SATs into our normal routine as much as possible so that children do not become anxious.

Attendance
Schools are required to publish an absence return for authorised/ unauthorised absences. Parents need to advise the School of reasons for any absences. We are keen to work with parents to ensure attendance is the best it can be and to make sure that each child has the opportunity of attending School during term time.
Timetable
Children can be dropped off at School from 8.35am. The School day starts at 8.45am when they will assemble in their classrooms. Pick up is from 3.05pm at the front of the School where children will be allowed to leave the care of the teacher once a parent/carer has been identified.
If for any reason you are delayed collecting your child, please telephone the school office as we can then make arrangements for your child to be looked after until you arrive to collect him/her.

Lunches
We have our own canteen serving hot lunches each day. Meals must be booked in advance.

If parents supply a packed lunch we ask parents to cooperate with us in the following ways:
To pack food in a lidded container with the child’s full name on it.
To avoid providing non-healthy foods such as chocolate and sweets.
To place drinks in non breakable/leakproof containers.
Fizzy drinks are not allowed. Drinking water is available throughout the day.
Uniform
We have a red and grey uniform. All items need to be clearly labelled with your child’s name. 100+ red jumpers without names can cause confusion! A lost property box is kept in school.

Parent Helpers
We welcome offers of help from parents who would like to work alongside teachers and teaching assistants within the classroom and during after school clubs. Children benefit greatly from the chance to interact with a wide range of people and staff always value parental help.
Please note all volunteers/ helpers are subject to satisfactory CRB clearance.
Parent Forum
The aim of the Parent Forum is for both the School and parents to openly discuss ideas and make comments on topics of interest. Recent topics have included the transition from a First School to a Primary School, the approach to reporting and the School Ethos.
The summary is sent out to all parents. All parents/guardians with children at Stoborough can attend Forum meetings. Items of a sensitive or confidential nature will not be discussed in the Forum.
