Year 6 Cornwall Trip 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 by School Office

Day 1 – Monday 20th October 2014

Update at 1:00pm
The Y6 pupils arrived safely in Cornwall at about 12:15 lunchtime today. The pupils behaved brilliantly on the coach and enjoyed watching a film along the way! No problems with coach sickness.

This afternoon the pupils should be going body boarding so should be fun! I will contact Miss Steele later on for an update.

Best wishes
Deborah Corbin

Update at 4:45pm
Just heard from Miss Steele… The body boarding was great with brilliant waves! Everyone had loads of fun! The pupils are presently getting showered ready for tea. Everyone loves their rooms with the boys all in one room (Miss Steele is next door so she can hear what they are getting up to!)

Everyone will be taking part in “Super Teams” later on so the pupils should sleep well tonight! The team at the centre are brilliant and staff and pupils all have big smiles!!!

Parents – I do hope you all manage to relax a bit this evening! Another update tomorrow.

Best wishes,
Deborah Corbin

Day 2 – Tuesday 21st October 2014

Update at 9:45am
Morning All. The pupils had a brilliant night! They had chicken chunks, chips and peas followed by chocolate cupcakes for supper. (Much nicer than my dinner! Yum!)

Everyone had a lot of fun competing in the Super Teams. This involved pupils taking part in lots of relays with silly dressing up and other wacky races! This was followed by a quiz and a onesie fashion show! Miss Steele then managed to fit in time for some extra fruit too.

The pupils are taking part in coastal traversing or climbing in two groups this morning. This will be followed by team building (as one group) and a coastal walk tonight. Sounding great!

More updates later everyone. Thank you to those parents who have kindly written messages. Lovely to receive these. Have a happy day everyone!

Best wishes,
Deborah Corbin

Update at 1:45pm
Lunch was great, yummy sandwiches, salad, crisps, biscuits and fruit. Due to the wind earlier they swapped activities and everyone did coastal traversing, all pupils were amazing! There was a sudden down pour and they beat the record for 25 people getting on to the mini bus to shelter! Miss Steele said this was very funny!

Everyone stopped for a drink in a cave, which sounds like a very good idea! Miss Steele has said that all pupils are doing Stoborough Proud!!! I am not at all surprised, they are all brilliant! Next update this evening.

Best wishes,
Deborah Corbin

Update at 5:20pm
Evening everyone, Here is the rest of the update for today… The team building was brilliant – human spider webs, wall climbing, passing the ball through guttering and human assault courses.

All the Y6 pupils have said that they are feeling so much more confident and trusting of each other and feel they can support one another in team situations. They have been demonstrating our school values of thoughtfulness and kindness in a brilliant way!

The activity centre team are amazing and due to their commitment, every child has tried and completed every single activity! GREAT!!! Well done everyone!

The boys are feeling a bit tired now as they spent quite a long time chatting before settling down for sleep last night… as is Miss Steele and Mrs P! Remember to pace yourselves ladies!

There will be a coastal walk this evening before an early bedtime! Have a wonderful evening all! Next update tomorrow.

Best wishes,
Deborah Corbin

Day 3 – Wednesday 22nd October 2014

Update at 10:00am
Another great night!!! The children had chicken and ham with veg and potatoes followed by yummy apple crumble and ice-cream for supper, which went down very well with everyone! Everyone went for a coastal (blustery) night walk with a spot of star gazing and even managed to see the Big Dipper. It was then back to base to get PJs on. Miss Steele and Mrs P set up a mummifying game for all and the photos taken are brilliant! They even managed to rope the coaches to join in.

The children were exhausted so it was then straight to bed. Everyone was asleep much earlier last night! (Well done Miss Steele and Mrs P!)

Today is more surfing, archery and climbing for some groups and then back together for an egg drop challenge. The big news today is that today is… PASTY day!!! (great excitement!) Breakfast was huge bacon rolls and cereals!!!

There will be another update later so hope you all have a great day until the next bit of news.

Best wishes,
Deborah Corbin

Update at 6:25 pm
All is well! The Y6 team have had a full and action packed day with everyone completing climbing activities plus archery or body boarding. Surfing was cancelled because the waves were too big. Miss Steele reports that there were some very funny moments during the body boarding, I think the photographs she has taken will tell all!

Another tasty supper – meatballs with spaghetti followed by cake and cream. Delicious! Tallulah has eaten loads of cheese and Neve has apparently come out of her shell!!! Go girls go!

The person leading at the activity centre said that everyone is having an excellent time! They certainly sounded very excited when I was on the phone!

I hope you all have a lovely evening.
Next update tomorrow.

Best wishes,
Deborah Corbin

Day 4 – Thursday 23rd October 2014

Update at 10.10am
Just a quick update as the team made an early start today because they hope to go canoeing! Let’s hope the water is calm! They will also be abseiling and hopefully, surfing this afternoon!

I will update later when I have some more news.

Best wishes,

Update at 6:15pm
Everyone has had a very busy day and I know the pupils are really looking forward to sharing some of their adventures with you when they get back! Last night they played egg drop and “night lines” which involved being blindfolded and following a rope around a course, with a few obstacles along the way (sounds tricky!).

Breakfast this morning was croissants, pain au chocolat, fruit and cereal (sounds tasty!).

Today all pupils went canoeing with the option of either body boarding or abseiling this afternoon! I am pleased to say everyone has joined in all of the activities which is great!

The pupils are now getting ready for their talent show, BBQ, bonfire and disco! I know last year they had a great time on this evening so I am presuming it will be equally brilliant this time.

I cannot believe the week is nearly over. Tomorrow I will only post the approximate time of arrival back at school. This should be around 5pm but I have asked Miss Steele to phone when she leaves and during the journey to give a more precise time for you all. We will send you a message on Parent Mail as well as writing an update on the website.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for being willing to send your child on this wonderful trip and for support through the lovely blog comments you have sent in. I’ve enjoyed reading them! Happy half term hols everyone!

Over and out until tomorrow.

Best wishes,

Day 5 – Friday 24th October 2014

I have spoken to Miss Steele and she has informed me that there has been an accident on the motorway in front of them and that the coach is caught up behind this. We think the approximate time of arrival is more likely to be 7:00pm. We will keep you updated when we have further news.

The group has just arrived at Exeter Services and Miss Steele is getting the children something to eat. They will be leaving there about 5:45pm and should be back about 7:15pm at Stoborough.
I’ll keep you posted if this time changes.

Update at 6:15pm
We have just heard that the group has left Exeter Services and the expected time of arrival is about 7:30pm. The children have had either burger or chips plus drinks to keep them going. I would think they will still need supper when they get home.

Thank you,

To the children…
You were all brilliant! I am delighted you had such a wonderful time. Thank you for being such a fantastic group of pupils! Now enjoy your holiday with your family.

Best wishes,
Miss Corbin
