At the end of each RE unit, children are assessed against the criteria provided by the Diocese for the Understanding Christianity topics. Teachers assess children's knowledge and understanding through a variety of activities, including drama, discussion, debate, artwork and written work.
In the Foundation Stage children have the opportunity to engage in role play activities e.g. acting out visitors to the stable when exploring Incarnation, or baptising a baby doll. They love to visit Lady St Mary’s Church to act out a wedding service. They dress up as bride, groom, best man, ushers, pageboys and bridesmaids for the big day and enjoy a wedding breakfast when they return to school. Teachers assess children’s knowledge and understanding at this stage from their verbal feedback and artwork.
