Bikeability – Levels 1 & 2

Each year, we invite qualified Bikeability instructors into school to deliver Level 1 and Level 2 training to our pupils. As an Eco School, we want to encourage children to choose active and sustainable ways to travel, including cycling to school. Bikeability helps us to do this by giving children the confidence, skills and road-safety knowledge they need to cycle safely.

Level 1 takes place in a safe, traffic-free environment and helps children develop control of their bike. Pupils learn essential skills such as starting and stopping safely, steering, using gears and looking around while maintaining control.

Level 2 builds on these skills by taking pupils onto quiet local roads with trained instructors. Children learn about safe road positioning, communicating with other road users, recognising hazards and negotiating junctions safely.

Bikeability supports our commitment to healthy, active lifestyles, sustainable travel and helping our children develop the confidence and independence to cycle safely in their local community.

A letter from Mr Davies- Summer 2026

It's not just our pupils who benefit from our extracurricular clubs.

I run outside of school and I have joined Purbeck Runners running club. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do that before and it's down to our school running club. Mrs Bird-Hawkins, class teacher and running club leader.
