Homework

Homework

We believe homework is important for the following reasons: -

 · It shows the child that there is a partnership between school and home

 · It helps to keep a parent/carer involved in their child’s learning

 · It reinforces some of the key knowledge required in specific subjects

· It helps to create good habits in preparation for the increased homework demands of secondary education

We believe it’s important to get homework tasks right; they must be meaningful and as enjoyable as possible. We have therefore invested in resources to support your child’s home learning. Logins and passwords are recorded in your child’s reading record and links to the programmes are available on your child’s class page, on our website.

Mathletics

An online programme. Teachers will set weekly tasks linked to the maths learning taking place in class.

TT Rockstars

An online programme that helps children to practise their times tables with regular practice and recall. We will set specific tables to practise until your child has mastered all the tables up to 12 x 12.

Spelling Shed

A fun and interactive way to learn weekly spellings. Spelling books will come home with the spellings to practise for the week. The same spellings will be set on the Spelling Shed for interactive practice. Please ensure the book is returned to school for the weekly quiz and so you can see their results.

Reading Records

Please use the VIPERs question prompts found in your child’s reading records to talk to them about the book they are reading. Your comments help us to keep track of what your child is reading and how they are getting on at home. We also wish to celebrate your child’s efforts with their reading. Reading records will be collected in weekly by a member of your child’s year team. We hope your child will get into the habit of reading daily but we have a minimum expectation of three entries recorded in their reading record, each week. Please ensure reading records and reading books are brought into school every day so we can also record when we read 1:1 with your child.

Occasionally, your child’s class teacher may set additional homework, linked to their learning in school. We will always encourage and praise child-led learning, so if your child is motivated to do anything extra at home, please do let us know so we can celebrate their efforts.

We are aware that the maths and spelling homework will require a tablet or computer to complete; if this causes any issues for you and your child, please do let us know. It is important that all our pupils have access to their home learning and we will do our best to remove any barriers to this.

If you have any questions about homework, please make contact with your child’s class teacher via the school office.
