Year 6

Welcome to the Year 6 class page!

We are also known as the Peregrine Falcons!

In Year 6, the teachers supporting your children are:

  • Mrs Camerota (Class teacher)
  • Mr Moir (Teaching assistant)
  • Miss Lawton-Archer (1:1 teaching assistant and ELSA)

Our priority this year is to ensure your child feels safe, happy and ready to learn by creating a fun and engaging environment where they can thrive.

By ensuring they are comfortable at school, we can be certain that they will excel in their learning to the best of their ability.

Throughout the year, we will support your child in their learning and well-being; particularly in the lead up to the SATs which will happen in May.

Star of the Week

Well done to Zac for being a star this week!

Zac is a star for becoming more resilient in his learning and challenging himself more. He is also putting fantastic effort into our school play!

Year 6, remember, you are all truly stars!

Week commencing 21st June

Week commencing 14th June

In Science, the children enjoyed creating their own creatures and then explained how it was adapted to its habitat.

Week commencing 7th June

We have had so a fun and exciting first week back this term; we cannot wait to enjoy this last term with these fantastic children!

Here is some of the things we have been doing this week!

In Science, we used our knowledge about inheritance to create new Mr Men and Little Miss characters.

In English, we interviewed some of the characters from our book and wrote TV news scripts to host our own news report that we recorded with the iPads.

Week commencing 24th May

Year 6 have had a crazy last week of term; we have been making props for our school play (some set building too), practicing lines and songs and some learning too, of course!

In English, the children wrote some brilliant haiku poems linked to our Nurture through Nature week and our current class book 'The London Eye Mystery'. They were so good at counting the syllables for each line!

In Maths, we looked at line graphs and pie charts and how they show statistically data differently.

What a great way to end and half term, Peregrine Falcons.

Our next half term will be the busiest, best and probably most emotional by the end!

Have a well-deserved break!

Here are some photos of us building sets and our fantastic Haiku poems with some art work.

Haiku poems from our English learning this week.

Math statistical work!

Week commencing 17th May

Year 6 have really thrived this week during our Nurture through Nature activities! We loved outdoor sculptures, camouflage, den building (although it was very windy ) and gardening!

Here are some photos of what we have been up to:

Outdoor sculptures!

PGL Osmington Bay - we all had a lovely day out and the children were super lucky with the beautiful weather we had!

Week commencing 10th May

Great work from all children this week to use persuasive features to create leaflets to advertise people to go to the London Eye.

In Science, the children created diagrams to show how water and nutrients are broke down in our bodies.

Week commencing 3rd May

This week, Year 6 children have been doing some fantastic work writing diary entries for a character in our new class text.

They have been challenging themselves to use a variety of punctuation and a range of sentences.

Well done Year 6 - you are wonderful writers!

In humanities, we have begun looking at Britain's stunning National Parks. The children have had fun presenting their own powerpoints of information and finding out more about Britian's breathing spaces.

Week commencing 26th April

We have all been enjoying our new text in English - The London Eye Mystery. The children have loved being detectives and thinking of their own theories about the mystery!

Week commencing 19th April 2021

Year 6 have been learning about idioms in English this week and they are definitely all ears for any they may hear and they might even bite the bullet and use some of their own wink

Well done for a great first week back after the Easter break. You have been fantastic in all your learning and your writing is brilliant.

We are so proud of you all and can't wait for the term ahead; especially all the exciting things to come :)

We talked about being kind today, not just to other, but also ourselves. The children came up with nice things about others and then chose some positive affirmations for themselves. Here are some examples!
